Peter is the President of Turkstra Lumber. The business has been in existence for 55 years, operates twelve lumber yards and three manufacturing plants. In 2006, Peter was part of the expedition to the North Pole. While the open water and moving ice presented serious challenges, it was one of the best experiences of his life; specifically, the generosity of the public and vendors – to help inner city kids – was humbling. Peter and the team committed themselves to ensuring that every penny went to good use – every penny!
In the end, those who get to go on great adventures are the lucky ones, as many kids can only dream and hope for basic nutrition, let alone adventure. Peter hopes that this trip will raise awareness for the issues, but also provide a chance for the kids to “come along for the adventure”.
His better half, Karen, and daughters Sarah and Laura are nervous, but in full support. The previous trip to the North Pole only re-enforced the importance of love and family – it is all one thinks about on the ice – no work, no phone, no issues – just move ahead, stay warm and think of your family.
