Training

The South Pole expedition is physically demanding and requires the team members to be in top form. Overall fitness will benefit them as they will be in a physically demanding situation for over a week. The cold takes a lot out you and adapting to the cold can take several days. The team could be skiing for up to 10 hours a day and the sleds will weigh in at 45 Kilos.

Their training regimen will consist of the following items to start:

  • Lifting weights and overall cardio.
  • At the gym - core oriented exercises including abs, lower back and general core strengthening.
  • At least 4 hours a week either running or on cardio machine such as Elliptical and Nordictrak.
  • Pulling tires with harness and ropes from at least 2-4 hours a week. This will simulate the same activity that they will be doing on the ice.

The training program will increase in intensity as the expedition approaches, assuring the team is ready for the demand of the extreme conditions.

Equipment

Within their sleds, team members will be hauling all items needed for their entire expedition. This includes:

  • Tents
  • Sleeping Bags
  • Outerwear and clothing
  • All food requirements
  • Cooking stoves and utensils
  • Fuel
  • Spare parts and tools

The team will spend several months planning and procuring supplies and several days packing their sleds at the beginning of the expedition to ensure that all necessary items are included, while keeping the sleds as light as possible.
